COPYRIGHT WEEK IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO.
The Government of Trinidad & Tobago through
the Minister of Legal Affairs has adopted a strong
anti piracy posture. This follows up the heels of
the coming into force of an up to date Copyright
Act ,1997 which is now in force. In an effort to
sensitize the local public about Copyrights the
United Nations World Intellectual Property
Organisation (WIPO) and the Government of Trinidad
& Tobago have joined together to host a Copyright
week during January 25 -29, 1998 at the Trinidad
Hilton and the Grafton Beach
Resort, Tobago.
According to information available the provisional
program intends to cover a number of pertinent topics
such as :
International Protection of Copyright
and Neighbouring Rights- basic notions
and the Berne Convention
Introduction to Collective Management
of Copyright and Neighbouring
Rights
A Caribbean Regional System for Collective
Management of Copyright and Neighbouring
Rights.
Piracy of Sound Recordings.
The role of Customs in the Enforcement
of Copyrights and Neighbouring
Rights
Prevention of Piracy - the implementation
of the Banderole system.
Police actions for the suppression
of infringement.
The commercial exploitation of works in
certain areas.
New trends in protection.
Collective management protection of
expressions of folklore
Copyright and Broadcasting
Important Issues in Contracts and
Licensing Agreements.
